From New York Times Bestselling Author Elisabeth Naughton, a dangerous story in her Aegis Series One chance encounter… He’s been watching her—from the slopes, in the restaurant—and now he’s here, in the dimly lit bar of the swanky Vail resort, pretending not to notice her from across the crowded room. Songwriter Grace Ryder has never liked the spotlight, but her skin tingles whenever his mysteriously sexy gaze drifts her way. His muscular body may be built for danger, but those tempting lips scream sweet relief. Only one night will prove whether he’s safety or sin. …could just get her killed. Aegis operative Brian Walker’s orders are clear: observe, but don’t touch. Grace Ryder is off limits in every way possible. Things change, though, the moment the leggy brunette makes him an offer he can’t refuse. Desire leads to seduction and one night that will test both Brian’s personal and professional limits. Because lurking in the shadows, someone's waiting for the moment to strike, and if Brian’s not careful, his obsession for a woman he never should have touched could get them both killed. **Note: This book was previously published as Sinful Surrender by Elisabeth Naughton

Airport Ranger volunteer Stacy Broussard expected a peaceful Saturday morning ride around the perimeter of Houston’s airport. What she encounters instead is a brutal homicide and a baffling mystery. Next to the body is an injured dog, the dead man’s motorcycle, and a drone armed with a laser capable of taking down a 747. Though FBI Special Agent Alex LeBlanc sees a clear-cut case of terrorism, his past has taught him to be suspicious of everyone, even witnesses. Even bleeding-heart veterinarians like Stacy. But when her gruesome discovery is only the first in a string of incidences that throw her life into a tailspin, Alex begins to wonder if Stacy was targeted. As a health emergency endangers Stacy’s community, and the task force pulls in leads from all directions, Alex and Stacy must work together to prevent another deadly encounter.

In July 1861 London newspapers excitedly reported two violent crimes, both the stuff of sensational fiction. One involved a retired army major, his beautiful mistress and her illegitimate child, blackmail and murder. In the other, a French nobleman was accused of trying to kill his son in order to claim the young man's inheritance. The press covered both cases with thoroughness and enthusiasm, narrating events in a style worthy of a popular novelist, and including lengthy passages of testimony. Not only did they report rumor as well as what seemed to be fact, they speculated about the credibility of witnesses, assessed character, and decided guilt. The public was enthralled. Richard D. Altick demonstrates that these two cases, as they were presented in the British press, set the tone for the Victorian "age of sensation." The fascination with crime, passion, and suspense has a long history, but it was in the 1860s that this fascination became the vogue in England. Altick shows that these crimes provided literary prototypes and authenticated extraordinary passion and incident in fiction with the "shock of actuality." While most sensational melodramas and novels were by lesser writers, authors of the stature of Dickens, Thackeray, George Eliot, Trollope, Hardy, and Wilkie Collins were also influenced by the spirit of the age and incorporated sensational elements in their work.

In 1995, the mutilated body of a female tourist is found in the hills overlooking Heidelberg. By 1997, three more female tourists have been brutally murdered. The media accuse Police Commissioner Kurt Schiller and Inspector Stefan Krupp of incompetence, and demand that they resign. So far, the motive for the deaths is sketchy, but the consensus is clear. Someone is trying to scare tourists away, but no one knows who or why. Most of the murders occur during springtime festivals, and most of the bodies are found in the hills above Heidelberg, except the latest one, which is found outside a US military installation near Seckenheim. This raises more questions since, besides location, there are other inconsistencies that cannot be explained.Inspector Krupp is faced with a puzzling dilemma. Is a clever killer trying to confuse the police, or are there two vicious killers on the loose with different motives? Soon, when a fifth victim is discovered, and a sixth is identified as a possible next one, Krupp must accept what his seasoned instincts tell him. The killer is someone he knows. Now, he must prove what he suspects before another innocent victim is killed...or he is.

Everyone has heard of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. But what about close encounters of the fatal kind? The field of UFOs is rife with unsettling examples of suspicious deaths. Accounts of accidents that might not have been accidents after all, abound. Researchers and witnesses have vanished, never to be seen again. Conveniently timed heart attacks are reported. Out-of-the-blue suicides that, upon investigation, bear the distinct hallmarks of murder, are all too common. And grisly deaths at the hands of both extraterrestrials and government agents have occurred. Highlights of Close Encounters of the Fatal Kind include: The strange saga of the incredible melting man. The UFO-related death of the first U.S. Secretary of Defense, James Forrestal. The mysterious disappearances of military pilots and their connection to UFOs. The connections between national security and the sudden deaths of UFO investigators. Getting too close to the cosmic truth about alien abductions, Roswell, and what the government really knows about UFOs can—clearly—be a deadly business. The government’s latest admission of the existence of Area 51 is barely the tip of a very big iceberg.

From the creator of the popular blog The Monsters Know What They’re Doing comes a compilation of villainous battle plans for Dungeon Masters. In the course of a Dungeons & Dragons game, a Dungeon Master has to make one decision after another in response to player behavior—and the better the players, the more unpredictable their behavior! It’s easy for even an experienced DM to get bogged down in on-the-spot decision-making or to let combat devolve into a boring slugfest, with enemies running directly at the player characters and biting, bashing, and slashing away. In The Monsters Know What They’re Doing, Keith Ammann lightens the DM’s burden by helping you understand your monsters’ abilities and develop battle plans before your fifth edition D&D game session begins. Just as soldiers don’t whip out their field manuals for the first time when they’re already under fire, a DM shouldn’t wait until the PCs have just encountered a dozen bullywugs to figure out how they advance, fight, and retreat. Easy to read and apply, The Monsters Know What They're Doing is essential reading for every DM.
